Health systems strengthening
Strengthening health systems for equity
Resilient health systems must be equitable, gender-responsive, and equipped to handle the social determinants of health. We combine rigorous policy analysis, implementation research, and direct technical assistance to support governments. Our ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between evidence and action by embedding gender and equity frameworks directly into public health programmes, medical education, and frontline service delivery. Our core system-strengthening initiatives include:
Collaborating with global partners like WHO-SEARO, UNU-IIGH, and the University of the Western Cape to build Gender Integration Case Studies, and analysing key reforms, including Tamil Nadu’s Gender Guidance Clinics, medical curricula in Karnataka and Maharashtra, and Nepal’s abortion law reforms.
Providing technical support on medical education and workforce reform to the Government of Karnataka under a World Bank-supported initiative.
Advancing equitable service delivery by identifying enabling factors and challenges to help scale successful models across different regions.
