About the Centre

The Ramalingaswami Centre on Equity and Social Determinants of Health was set up in Bengaluru in 2015, as a Centre of Excellence at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). It has become a go-to place for training, research and knowledge translation on gender and intersectionality in health systems and policy.

Our mission

The Centre pursues health justice through collaborative research and practice that challenges systemic health inequities to transform health systems and promote well-being over the life course. Our particular interest is in understanding and addressing health inequities through gender power and its intersections with other sources of inequality. We build on plural knowledge practices and engage with multiple actors to catalyse sustained health citizenship. We use context-specific evidence to build capacity and advance policy development and action in response to evolving social, climatic, and institutional realities.
