Maternal safety and rights

Driving maternal safety and rights in healthcare

Every woman deserves a safe, respectful, and dignified childbirth experience. For over fourteen years, our Centre has pioneered research in Karnataka to understand and eliminate disrespect and abuse during maternity care. By combining rigorous evidence with health system realities, we translate research into practical, life-saving tools and implementation models. Our current high-impact initiatives include:

Strengthening respectful maternity care through the LaQshya Smriti project, in partnership with the National Health Mission, Karnataka, to transform public hospitals through continuous mentoring and quality improvement.

Addressing rising C-sections through a World Bank-funded study on the clinical, financial, and social drivers behind unnecessary surgeries.
